Alang Alang is a natural grass which comes from the Indonesian islands and has been used for hundreds of years on the island of Bali as a traditional form of roofing.
Alang-alang is made from the grass Imperata Cylindrica.
It is a very attractive and long-lasting roofing material that can last up to 15 years depending on the climate although the usual life-span is around eight to ten years.
Until now, Alang Alang is still made in the same traditional way and is often constructed using bamboo rafters, although nowadays timber is becoming more common.
Alang Alang is very durable, acts as a great insulation against the heat and is also very attractive to look at, both from the inside and out.
It requires no finishing or maintenance however a few coats with thatch coat will protected it from our harsh UVs, prolonging its lifespan from breaking down as well as enhancing its appearance.
